Bed Frame Before and After - Guest Room

Before we moved to Florida, one of the first things we did was asses the furniture we had and whether we would keep it, sell it or donate it. At first, our plan was to sell the bed frame since we had intentions of upgrading our bed to a king. Once we realized (aka did the math) how expensive buying brand new furniture would be for a four bedroom home, we decided to get creative and make the most of what we had. Part of that was keeping this bed frame and transforming it to meet our tastes. We are so glad we did.

To achieve this transformation, we did a really simple upgrade! It took hours of sanding (seriously, we sanded for like two or three days for hours at a time) but ultimately gave us something pretty decent to work with. Since it was previously a dark espresso color, there were some bits we simply could not sand down. So, we didn’t. It ended up giving this accidental aged and worn look we actually loved (thankfully).

From a clean and sanded fresh slate, we added our current favorite Pickeled Oak Minwax stain. Finally, we reupholstered the leather with a durable oatmeal linen (hint: we also used this on our dining chairs). In the end, we ended up spending about $100 plus labor to get this beauty into a new look (at least 1/4th of the cost of a new bed frame - 1/16 of the cost of the bed frame Cara wanted). Let us know what you think!
